Chapin Mower

It seems that Chapin Mower has been around…literally. When I asked him to come up with some fun facts for his biography, this writer wasn’t prepared for the barrage of random adventures that flooded the inbox. Emails came flying in with lines like, ‘When I was an intern at Edelman Worldwide, they dressed me like Colonel Sanders and rode me on a Harley down the streets of New York City’, and, ‘I really enjoyed kayaking through the fiords of southern Chile’. However, this was nothing shocking; this is just the Tao of Chapin.

Equal parts family man and life of the party, Chapin’s life experiences mirror the duality of Mowalla’s more conservative partner, and no matter how much one thinks one knows him- Brooks’ Brothers, khakis and clogs - there is always a surprise hiding behind the glint of his eye, his love for his pet parakeet, Pickles, being one of them.

Hailing from a large family in the great state of Missouri, Chapin left to attend college at St. Lawrence University in upstate New York, and ‘never looked back’. Following wanderlust, he moved onto Colorado and became the owner of an auto-refinance company in Denver. It was here that Chapin developed a passion for hiking extremely tall mountains, which he affectionately refers to as ‘14ers’.

Longing for flatter lands and a career in marketing, Chapin then moved on to Chicago to work at Edelman Worldwide, where he fell in love with the experiential side of the business. Fast forward six years and Chapin was ready to hang up the corporate agency world, formulating Mowalla, with Brent, on a cocktail napkin. Of the experience, Chapin writes:

“We developed Mowalla, Inc. out of equal parts desperation, ambition, ignorance and beer.  After six years at Edelman, I was burnt and wanted to work for myself! The creation of Mowalla seemed fun, ambitious and easy; and it has been…anything, but easy. Then again nothing in life worth doing is easy”.

Currently, Chapin heads up the team at our Chicago office.  He and his wife, Jennifer, are the proud parents of three- a future professional hockey player, a future professional soccer player and a soon-to-be rockstar. When he’s not in the office, Chapin can be found on his blackberry, drinking Starbucks, and shuttling these future champions to their respective events.
