Sleep Well San Diego

Imagine; you are hungry, cold, wet, and have not slept more than three hours consecutively in two weeks.  You have no idea where your next meal will come from, you have no savings, and you are constantly living in fear that the person that ‘owns’ the corner next to you will harm you and take the few items you own.  There is not much sleep on the streets.

The above statement recounts the often overlooked reality of homelessness in the United States. While San Diego is one of the most beautiful cities in the country, it harbors a dark secret- thousands of homeless men, women, and teens. Beginning in 2007, San Diego Rescue Mission created a unique opportunity for community leaders, national and local companies, students, and political officials to participate in an innovative program.  Sleepless San Diego is a series of activities created to enhance an individual’s understanding of what being homeless is really like.

The Sleep Out event on April 24-25, 2010, is expected to draw 1,500 to 2,000 participants who will sleep outside for one night.  Sleepers will also enjoy live music, refreshments, and a movie about homelessness. The Sleep Out is a multifaceted educational and awareness experience intended to engage individuals in community action. While the overnight experience does not attempt to replicate a homeless experience, the safe, secure environment of the event is radically eye-opening.

Mowalla is pleased to announce our involvement in The Sleep Out.  We are on the case preparing all the event management details before April 24, 2010. Check out more on this amazing organization and care-driven event here.

If you are in San Diego, feel free to contact us on how you can get involved, or perhaps ‘Sleep Out’.  If you are not in San Diego, Sleepless events will begin to roll out in cities nationwide later in 2010, and have already received recognition as an important vehicle to address homelessness. Stay tuned for more information. Your generous support in eradicating homelessness in America is greatly appreciated.
